"A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the internet..." Bernie Dodge, Professor of Educational Technology at San Diego State University. Webquests are becoming ever more popular with educators. It is a fun and interactive way for students to not only learn something new, but they also learn how to use internet resources more effectively. We have designed a webquest to go along with a short story unit--Our Short Story Webquest. This webquest was designed with the hopes that students in grades 8-10 would learn a thing or two about the elements that make up a traditional short story. Although this webquest is designed with 8-10th graders in mind it could easily be adapted to a wider age range by changing the stories. Finally, we would follow up this activity with an inductive lesson which would guide the students through the different elements of a short story.
